Job Description:

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Economic Development Project Coordinator! In this role, you'll help new and growing businesses and cultural organizations in Berkeley by offering expertise in business services, project management, real estate, finance, organizational development & marketing, and analysis of the local economy. You'll manage complex, multi-phase projects with diverse stakeholders, prepare reports and presentations for the City Manager and Council, and act as a liaison between the City and various professional groups, community organizations, and individuals.

Other responsibilities include representing the Office of Economic Development on interdepartmental teams and supervising other staff in the Office of Economic Development as directed by the Economic Development Manager.
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four year college with major coursework in business or public administration, economics, or a field related to the work and four years of professional level experience in economic or business development, employment, or similar administrative capacity.
  • Additional experience as outlined above may be substituted for the education on a year for year basis. Project management and lead or supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.

    The exam process will include, but may not be limited to:
  • Application review for minimum qualifications (qualifying experience will be calculated based on the application filing period closing date)
  • Oral Board Exam (tentatively scheduled for December 12, 2024)
    Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
